Curriculum Resources

The New Diana ISD staff is expected to deliver the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) by following the district’s vertically aligned scope and sequence. Each subject area has access to a variety of district adopted resources to design lessons that will successfully instruct students.

Core Curriculum – New Diana ISD currently provides a K-12 vertically aligned scope and sequence for English Language Arts, Reading, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies through the TEKS Resource System. The English Language Arts and Reading curriculum is supplemented beginning in 6th grade and continuing through 12th grade with the Springboard AP ELAR curriculum. Additional subject and grade specific state adopted and district approved resources are included as needed to enhance the effectiveness of instruction.

Curriculum Writing Initiative - This year New Diana ISD began the process of creating district specific curriculum documents for use in Kindergarten through High School ELAR and Mathematics. Kindergarten through High School Science and Social Studies will be addressed during the 2017-2018 school year. These documents will address the unique learning needs of New Diana students. The documents being created are:

1. Vertical Alignment Document (VAD) - This document addresses each of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) students are expected to know as required by Texas Law. Teachers will address the depth, complexity, and rigor necessary for students to master academic concepts.

2. Year at a Glance (YAG) - This document will determine the order (sequence) in which the TEKS are presented to students throughout the school year. Teachers will review academic performance data to determine which TEKS need to be introduced early in the year and those to be introduced at a later time.

3. Big Bundles - Teachers will bundle the curriculum into three week bundles which are organized sequentially from the beginning to the end of the year.

4. Discrete Bundles - Teachers will begin with the Big Bundle (three weeks) and develop three Discrete Bundles (one per week). These bundles contain five days of instructional planning.

Elective Curriculum -The curriculum for elective courses is prepared by the teachers for each subject. Required components include a scope and sequence that includes instructional time to cover all Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for the course and district approved resources.

Prekindergarten Curriculum – Prekindergarten students in New Diana ISD are served through a full day program that follows the Texas Prekindergarten Guidelines.
