The dedication of the New Diana Baseball Field will be held to remember the sacrifice of the late Donny Tidwell. Tidwell was a student/athlete at New Diana High School who excelled in Football, Basketball and Baseball. In 1966 the LA Dodgers sent some scouts to Diana to witness Donny throwing a 100mph fastball. He signed a contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers farm system. He played a year of pro ball in the Rookie Leagues under the guidance of future Hall of Fame Coach Tommy Lasorda. He left baseball in 1968 to join the army and fight in the Vietnam War. In 1968 at the age of 21, Donny was killed in Vietnam in the Battle of Good Friday. It has been 50 years since Donnie died, and now New Diana ISD is proud to honor the legacy of our fallen hero.
The dedication of the New Diana baseball field in honor of Donny Tidwell will be held at 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20th 2018. A memorial has been erected in Tidwell's honor. A Flag stands above the memorial, and will fly the United States Flag day and night to honor Donny Tidwell always.
